Recategorizing

January 26, 2008 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

For those of you who read my blog, I am in the process of recategorizing every article.  I am a really organized person in my daily life and the way this blog is organized has been driving me crazy for a long time.  At times I go overboard with how many categories I attach to an article.  Now I've decided to break my categories down into a more logical pattern.  I will have the Mission and Week as a category for every article as well as a second category just for the mission (ie. I will have Mission 1: Week 1 and on the same article just a category that says Mission 1).  In addition, I will have the following categories (for now):  pre-shredding, carb cycling, chin up challenge, general, goals, motivation, nutrition, nutrition – metabolic surge, podcast, push up challenge, video, weightlifting logs.  I will add categories as needed, but I am going to be very careful about the categories I add.  I am going to think about the category before I add it.  With the new system, when I've gone through every article you will be able to get to any part of my blog by clicking on a category and getting a grouping of articles that belong to that category. Want to see how I did in Week 2 of Mission 1?  Just click Mission 1: Week 2 and you will get all the articles tagged in that manner.  Want to read all of my Mission 1 articles?  Just click Mission 1 and you've accomplished your mission!

The site will be in a state of flux as I do this.  I have already completed two weeks worth of articles.  I will post when this process is complete.

Mission 1, Day 92: What a day!

January 26, 2008 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

Today was an awesome day all the way around.  I started out doing my Max-OT cardio.  As I was doing the session, I was still a little concerned about my thigh, so I took it easy at first.  As I warmed up, the thigh exhibited no pain, so I started to push myself harder and harder.  I managed to squeeze out 1.72 miles in 16 minutes.  This was my third best distance ever.  I got in another sessionn of Flatten Your Abs and that completes one week of that system.

My next activity was to interview Marc David, the No Bull Muscle Guy.  Marc is an extremely friendly, easy to talk to individual.  We spoke for about 20 minutes prior to the interview and another 15 minutes after the interview.  The interview itself is 30 minutes long. Marc provides some awesome bodybuilding information.  He lives up to his name because his answers are extremely honest.  No bull from this guy!  This interview is posted on my Podcast: The No Bull Bodybuilding Interview with Marc David.  I hope you enjoy it.  Please be sure to leave a comment after listening.

I ended the day with my push up challenge workout and on the final set (8 sets total) I managed to top my best number and I hit 43 pushups.  I am sure I'm going to exceed 45 in the next test on Sunday.

I've got plans to start publishing some informational articles on this blog, so stay tuned for that.  The writing of the eBook continues.

Interview complete

January 25, 2008 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

I just wanted everyone to know that my interview with Marc David, the No Bull Bodybuilding guy, is complete.  I am awaiting the MP3 file so that I can edit it and possibly “fancy it up” a bit.  I plan to post it tomorrow morning (Saturday).  I know you are all going to find the information extremely interesting.  I found Marc to be a really friendly guy with tons of knowledge.  He has a passion for those of us who are learning and he doesn't give you any bull.  He lived up to his name of the No Bull Bodybuilding guy.  It was a pleasure and an honor to interview him.

Mission 1, Day 91: Reflecting on Mission 2

January 25, 2008 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

I did my Max-OT cardio and Flatten Your Abs workout this morning.  As I was on the treadmill I began to reflect on Mission 2 which is coming up soon.  I will not be taking a break between missions.  I am struggling with bulking or continuing to cut.

As I thought this through I began to realize that I have been cutting for a long time and I wonder if my body is adapting to that concept.  I also thought about the fact that extra muscle means extra cutting ability later.  At this point, I think if I can come down another 1% in body fat, I will give bulking a try.  I can always cut again if I start to gain back too much fat.

I got several more comments today about me looking thinner and this time it didn't immediately go to my head.  I said thank you and moved on.  I realized from the last time that I need to just remain focused on the ultimate goal.  Yes, I enjoyed hearing that my efforts are visible, but at the same time, I know I have alot more work to do.

Today I wore a sweatshirt that used to hug my mid-section.  Noticed I say that it “used to” hug my mid-section?  Now it hangs very loose in the middle.  It is yet another reminder of the changes that are taking place on my body.

I'm really enjoying the Flatten Your Abs workouts.  I can definitely feel my workouts the next day.  I haven't focused on the core very well in the past and I've realized that I need to do that if I'm going to get to where I want to go.

Tomorrow morning I conduct my interview with Marc David.  There are three people in the fitness world that inspire me for different reasons:  Tom Venuto (fat loss), Adam Waters (accountability) and Marc David (bodybuilding).  I “met” Marc when I joined his affiliate program.  Marc checks out the URLs entered into his affiliate program and saw this blog.  He sent me an email regarding the blog.  Since then we've been corresponding via email.  He's a great guy willing to give advice and answer questions.  I've enjoyed my correspondence with him and I'm really looking forward to the interview.  The resulting podcast will be posted on Saturday morning.
