I had an awesome cardio session today. I’m not sure what possessed me, but I did intervals for 30 minutes, running at a speed of 8.5 mph for 1 minute followed by walking at 3.5 mph for 1 minute. I then did another 30 minutes walking at 4.0 mph with an incline of 5%. I was dripping with sweat by the time I was done. I’m in fat burning mode all the way! |

M6:D14 (D492) My Training Philosophy Explained
For a long time now I have had my training philosophy in the sidebar of my blog, but I have never truly explained what it means and why I have it as a philosophy. Today I will give it my best shot.
At first glance my philosophy doesn’t seem to make alot of sense, but when broken down and thought through, it makes perfect sense. The fact is that I believe you can never really work hard enough. You should always be striving to do better and better with your lifts at the gym. Yes, you did the best you could at that very moment, but as soon as you walk away from that piece of equipment you know in your head that you will do more the next time you meet that piece of equipment. Progression demands it of you. If you hit the gym the next time and do less than you did previously, you are simply cheating yourself. As a result of the principle of progression you will always be able to go harder than you did the previous time at the gym. Anything less is robbing yourself of future results. The next time you hit the gym remember that you can never work hard enough because you can always go harder than you just did. |

M6:D13 (D491) Experiment of One – Does it apply?
With all the many programs available on the internet, should you be trying the cookie cutter approach or does the Experiment of One apply to everyone? I don’t think you are going to be surprised by my conclusions, but I am going to share them anyway. At its deepest level, the Experiment of One involves a lot more complexity than you would think. With that in mind, let’s focus on the simpler aspects of the Experiment of one and determine if it should apply to everyone. Let’s do this with the understanding that if we decide it should apply to everyone, we must immediately begin applying it to our own programs. The Experiment of One states that you are on a trip of discovery of your self. You are discovering who you are physically, emotionally and mentally and then applying what you find. There are well-intentioned people who fail on “proven” programs because those programs do not sit well with who the person is. The Experiment of One provides the solution for this. The process is quite simple. Your first job is to clearly identify your end result. What is it you actually want? If you fail to do this step you will just be setting yourself up for failure. Your next job is to prepare for getting yourself to the end result. What things do you need to start doing? What things do you need to stop doing? What things do you need to continue doing? Answer these questions honestly and you will be preparing yourself for the end result. You must next determine the road map. How are you going to get to the end result and what are the milestones you must meet along the way? This is where you set up short term and long term goals that you will then draw in to get to the end result. Your next step is to take action. Be focused in your action that you take. This is going to be your primary focus each day. Always ask what you can do today to further develop what you did yesterday. Always ask yourself what you need to avoid today to avoid undoing what you did yesterday. If you follow this plan, the end result will be achieved. Does this work for everyone? Yes, it does. It is a personal plan and it is fit to you. It is like a pair of shoes. I am sure that I cannot fit into my wife’s shoes and she cannot properly fit into mine. They are fitted for our own feet. This is the same with the Experiment of One—it is fitted for you personally. So stop stressing about what internet plan to follow. Follow the steps outlined above and you will be further along than most people in quite a short period of time. |

M6:D12 (D490) Don’t have an opinion
My experiences recently have led me to believe that some people, when they become an expert in their field, suddenly feel like it is an attack on them if someone else has an opinion that is contradictory to their own opinion. I am confused by this attitude because I’ve always felt that it is more important to learn continually than it is to fall in line with everyone else’s opinion. It is my strong belief that the only way we learn new things is to have an open mind. This means investigating the opinion of others and respecting their right to think differently than us. I believe that it is important to protect one’s content, but would only ban someone if they became abusive to me or my customers. If someone was simply stating their own opinion, I would respect that. I might even take them to task on their opinion if I believed they were wrong, but I would not ban them for having that different opinion. Abuse is another story entirely. If I am running a website with a membership forum and someone is abusing my members, they are going to get banned after a warning. That part only makes sense. Nobody wants to be abused, verbally or physically, so I won’t tolerate it on a forum I am running. With that said, I believe respect for other people’s opinions is of paramount importance. Never put someone down because their opinion is different from your’s. Just realize that not everyone will agree and that is ok. |
