M4:D22 (D322) Reflection time

What's on my mind today?

Tomorrow is Friday.  Friday has been my traditional "Evaluation and Reflection" time for years.  I learned the concept from Jim Rohn.  He is a personal growth motivator. 

What I do is set aside an hour on Friday morning after my gym time.  I sit in a quiet spot with my journal and I reflect on the past week and I evaluate where I am at as far as all my personal and professional goals go.  I spend the time planning ahead.  I regroup so to speak.  It is a wonderful time that I look forward to each week.

This Friday  I will be reflecting alot on my personal and professional life as I move forward with certain issues.  I recently had an employee of 3 years quit.  For the past several months she has been making alot of mistakes while writing programming code.  I've been working closely with her to fix the issues, but they just have not been getting fixed.  On Wednesday morning she violated a department policy in regards to rolling out a new application.  When I questioned her on it she admitted that if she'd asked me to allow her to roll it out, she would not have gotten that permission.  She admitted that she had cut corners.  I told her that she was not thinking and that she needed to start thinking.  She took offense and, based on emotions, she walked out.  I will be reflecting tomorrow on what type of person I want to fill that position.  I will be considering my options and acting accordingly.

Reflection time is important to your future growth.  Take the time each week to reflect on your successes and failures.  Don't just focus on the bad, make sure the good gets addressed as well.  Life is a series of ups and downs, but just focusing on the downs alone will not get you to your ultimate goals. It will only succeed in depressing you beyond belief.

M4:D21 (D321) Take no prisoners!

What's on my mind today?

Do you dabble in working out?  Do you try your best when hitting the gym?  Are you thinking that it is your workout program that is the problem?  Is that the reason you are not getting the desired results?  Are you really meeting your body's needs?

What does it mean to push yourself to the limit?  This means lifting until positive failure.  You lift the weight until you can't maintain proper form.  That is positive failure.  You then add weight the next time and try again.  This is what it means to push yourself to the limit.  By doing this you keep expanding what your limit really is.  It is an amazing thing really.  The key thing here is that you must push yourself.  It isn't going to happen on its own.  You can't just keep doing the same thing and expect your body to respond.  You have to work.

When you do cardio, do you dig down deep and give it everything you have?  Cardio is the type of exercise that really assists with burning fat.  You have to dig down deep and make your body work in the proper heart rate range in order to be successful at this aspect of your training.  It isn't about how fast you go or how long you go, it is about keeping yourself in the zone as long as possible.  This is accomplished by using a heart rate monitor and paying careful attention to the intensity of your workout.

When you lift are you leaving it all on the gym floor or are you carrying some of it with you out of the gym?  This is important.  You have to give it everything you have when lifting.  Leave nothing in the tanks.  Take it all and burn it up as you do the work.  Leave it all on the floor of the gym. Carry none of it with you when you leave.  Stop shortchanging yourself.  You will only get the desired results by working and working hard.  Your time is wasted if you fail to do this.

If you can tell something is left in your tank you owe it to yourself to empty those tanks immediately.  Work until you feel like you are empty.  It is an intense feeling.  To feel your muscles burn and your body scream out for mercy is something not too many people experience because they don't truly push themselves.  Lift heavy or stay home–that's the philosophy you should be following.  You need muscle to burn fat, so get to work earning that muscle.  Stop fooling yourself with lame workouts that don't make you work hard.  They are a waste of time and wind up getting you hurt in the long run.  Just push and push hard!

Take no prisoners at the gym.  Kill it!  It is all about the effort you put in.

Notice that I had 2 days rest since my last workout and yet I was still able to push bigger numbers on every single exercise.  In some instances the reps went up and in others the weight went up and in still others both went up.  My body is growing stronger with just one set of each exercise.  All this indicates to me is the wonderful simplicity of the program.  I plan to ask Carlos about the principle behind this and I will then discuss it on my blog.

M4:D20 (D320) Cardeeoh!

What's on my mind today?

The DOMs from my workout has really set in.  The simplicity of that workout makes it so extremely powerful.  It is something that I can't really describe, but I can tell you that I got my butt kicked by that workout.

There is just something about taking on a full body workout with that intensity that pumps me up.  I felt like I was taking no prisoners.  I was pushing hard and keeping the rest periods to a minimum.  The idea was to rest only as much as needed to give it my all on the next exercise.  This resulted in some amazing feelings during the workout.

I am really enjoying using the Quad Blaster as part of my normal workout routine.  I have also been incorporating the Ab Mat in my routine.  The Ab Mat is every bit as simple as the Quad Blaster and just as effective at what it does.  I can really isolate my abdominals  using this mat.  It is exciting to think that I can be getting similar results on my abs as I have with my quads thanks to a simple device like this.

Today was a cardio only day.  I was able to get in an interval session.  I got my heart rate up to 145 BPM and held it for 2 minutes.  I then allowed myself to recover down to 105 BPM and just repeated the cycle over and over.  It was an intense workout as usual.

I want you all thinking about something as we head towards tomorrow and my next entry.  When you workout do you push yourself to the limit?  Do your cardio sessions really dig down to the core of your existence?  Are you leaving everything out on the gym floor?  Do you know when there's still something left in the tank and so you pull out all the stop stops and get it all out?  I will be discussing these issues in tomorrow's entry.

As mentioned, today was just a cardio session.  I managed to do my normal intervals.  These are aimed at getting my fat burning zone to be at a higher heart rate level.  So far it is a good workout.

M4:D19 (D319) High Intensity Training

What's on my mind today?

Today I had a great workout and I discuss it in the workout log of this post.  It really got me thinking about simplicity though.

Most people overcomplicate everything.  They look at a workout routine and decide it isn't hard enough, so they make it "harder."  The reality is that all they are doing is complicating things.  Simplicity is the way to go.  That's what High Intensity Training (H.I.T.) is all about.

The workout you see in my workout log for today is a H.I.T. workout.  I did one set of each exercise.  As this was my first time through the workout, some of the weights are off as far as how many reps I can complete, but those will get dialed in over time.  The fact is that the workout took very little time to complete, but was every bit as effective as any other workout I've ever done, probably more so!  I was able to lift with intensity.  I shortened the rest period down to up the intensity a little.  I will also dial that in over time.

Take your time and realize that simple doesn't mean easy.  Complicated doesn't mean hard.  Just consider the source of your information and the rest will fall in place.

This workout is the ultimate in simplicity.  I know that some of you will review the log and think "Just one set?!?" but that's what makes it incredible.  You work just as hard as you would with multiple sets, but you work the entire body each workout.  The intensity was incredible and the DOMs set in quickly after the workout.  The time it took to do the workout was around 45 minutes because I kept the rest period low.  I truly enjoyed the workout.  Thank you Carlos DeJesus!

M4:D18 (D318) It starts

What's on my mind today?

It is Sunday and a rest day for me.  I am contemplating my new workout regimen that starts tomorrow.  I've got every
exercise written into my workout log.  I am ready to record an awesome workout and to report back to all of you tomorrow night about it.

Today was spent traveling to a hockey game.  The team did not play well as a unit and got worked.  There were several comments about the goalie and how without him the score would have been much worse. 

The rest of the day has been spent relaxing and enjoying myself.  I have been watching one movie after another and just getting my thoughts together.  I have a few major issues to tackle this week and have been planning those out on paper and reconciling them in my mind.  Thanks to the past 318 days, I am much stronger and more resolute about the things I am facing.

My plan this week is to get to every blog and make a comment.  I enjoy catching up with all of you and what you are doing.  I just didn't feel like focusing on that today.  It was better for me both mentally and physically to relax like I've done.
