What's on my mind today?

Day 796
Day 106 of 335

I wanted to wish my beautiful wife, Alison, a happy birthday today!  We celebrated at the hockey rink with my son’s team winning the championship!

Today’s video discusses real results with real consistency.  I had no intention of returning to this topic, but something that happened last night got me thinking and I just had to share my thoughts.

Adversity

December 29, 2009 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

Adversity is something we all face in our life. It can suck the strength right out of you. It can be a huge roadblock to success. All of that depends upon your reaction to adversity.

I'm certain you've seen the advertisements for products that promise fast results with little or no work on your part. What happens when you buy into that scam? What if you are in the majority that it fails to work for? Adversity grabs hold.

You need to learn to persevere. Be honest as to where the blame lies. It isn't the program, it is you. You can and should reach your fitness goals as long as you actually work a plan. Stop blaming others and get real.

Make the changes that need to be made. Stop blaming others and start blaming yourself. Take control over your own destiny. Adversity will soon be in your rearview mirror.

What's on my mind today?

Day 795
Day 105 of 335

Today’s video is about consistency—both with your training and your nutrition.  I also spend a bit of time explaining how I’ve come up with my nutritional approach and what my plans are for the next 3 weeks.

Please note that I have drastically changed the blog this time around.  Pictures will get published one time per week on Sunday.  I will also give a recap of my training for the week on Sunday as well.  You will see daily videos posted along with a very brief commentary on what is contained in the video.  I hope you enjoy the new format.

How to insure consistency in your training

December 14, 2009 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT 1 Comment

There are many ingredients to successful training, but none better than consistency. Creating a plan and then sticking to it daily does more for your fitness success than anything else. I get more compliments on my progress now that I am insistent than ever before. So how do you insure this consistency?

There are three keys to consistency: planning, perseverance and priority.

PLANNING

Take the time to plan your workouts. Know ahead of time what you will be doing. Don't leave it to chance. If you are into a body part split workout, know the order of the body parts. Know exactly what exercises you are using. This saves you time and makes you more productive.

PERSEVERANCE

As you travel down your fitness path you are bound to hit roadblocks. You will plateau. The key here is to push on through. Don't allow yourself the luxury of giving up. Through hardwork and perseverance you will remain consistent.

PRIORITY

We all try the excuse of not having enough time. It is truly just am excuse. We make time for what is important to us. Mak your training a priority in your life. Get up earlier if that is how you can fit it in. Do what will keep you consistent.

By planning your workouts, persevering when you feel lik quitting and by making training a priority you will be consistent!

Goals: Pencil or Pen?

December 13, 2009 By Michael Mahony, ISSA CPT Leave a Comment

Goals are supposed to be inflexible and set in stone. You should never change the due date of a goal. Don't believe either of those comments.

Be Specific

Goals must be specific or they won't be effective. You need to be clear about what you want to accomplish. A clear goal gives your brain a concise target to aim for.

Be Time Sensitive

When aiming to complete a goal you need to make sure it is time sensitive. With no due date you won't ever accomplish a goal. The due date sets your brain into motion. You can increase the pressure through a due date.

Put It In Pencil

While you must have a due date, it must be written in pencil. There are legitimate reasons to change the date a goal is due. An injury can happen which will cause you to take longer to complete the goal. If you have the due date in pen you might never complete the goal. Put the due date in pencil and you will simply erase the due date and move it to a more reasonable date.

Having flexibility built into your goals will help you accomplish them as long as that flexibility does not become a crutch. Use flexibility for the right reasons and you will practically guarantee success.
