Men's Open Division Review

The Men's Open division was fun at the top. Phil Heath successfully defended his title and is now a 4 time Mr. Olympia. He received a special solid gold Sandow due to this being the 50th anniversary of Mr. Olympia. The finish was a little controversial as many thought Kai Greene should have taken the title. My review of the Top 6 follows.

1. Phil Heath – Phil was tight and looked good aesthetically, but he didn't look sharp in the mid-section. it was an extremely close competition between Heath and Green with Heath just managing to hold on.

2. Kai Greene – Greene brought amazing conditioning to the show. He was the leanest competitor on the stage by far. He received the nod from the Fan's Choice Award by a large margin. Watch for Greene next year as well.

3. Shawn Rhoden – Rhoden came in bigger, fuller and more defined than ever before. He looked his best but it was just not enough to beat Heath and Greene.

4. Dennis Wolf – There is a rivalry developing between Wolf and Rhoden. Wolf was large and defined. He seemed truly disappointed in his 4th place finish.

5. Dextser Jackson – Dex looked amazing. He was conditioned and had amazing symmetry. He has been in the Olympia Top 6 since 2001.

6. Branch Warren – After a 9th place finish in 2013, many felt Warren was done. He proved them all wrong with a Top 6 finish. He had amazing conditioning and came in with some tremendous size on his frame. Warren is another of my favorite bodybuilders and I was very proud to see the package he brought to the stage.

Honestly, I felt that Kai Greene just edged Phil Heath in this competition. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below.

Review of Olympia 212 Division Results

I absolutely love the 212 division. It has given some amazing bodybuilders the chance to shine with others their size. The 212 division at the 50th Olympia was an amazing division. The results had some surprises included. Without getting too far ahead of myself, David Henry, the guy many thought would challenge Flex Lewis for the title, finished in 9th place. That was a shocker to most. Here is my review of the Top 6.

1. Flex Lewis – Flex was pushed hard by Eduardo Correa, but his size, symmetry and aestheitcs and conditioning overcame the challenge. Flex is going to need to continue working hard on his weak spots in order to continue to hold off the challenges of Correa and Raymond.

2. Eduardo Correa – I saw Correa in person at the Flex Pro in Los Angeles a couple years back and he impressed the hell out of me. His conditioning is always spot on. He was impressive and pushed Flex to the limit in this contest.

3. Jose Raymond – Jose came in extremely lean. He looked amazing and deserves the 3rd spot.

4. Hidetada Yamagishi – Hidetada was a bit flat and that cost him. He has brought better conditioning as part of the Open class than he did here. Had he brougth that incredible conditioning he would have placed in the Top 3.

5. Baito Abbaspour – This guy brought size and conditioning, but his aesthetics are a problem. He earns a top 5 due to some amazing conditioning.

6. Aaron Clark – Clark has great looking muscle bellies and symmetry, but he needs to improve his conditioning. This guy can do better than 6th if he dials it in.

The 212 was an exciting battle, but Correa faded between pre-judging and finals and that cost him the top spot. Flex Lewis is one of my favorite bodybuilders and he is going to need to make some improvements to hold onto the top spot in this division going forward. He is no longer a gimme when you have the likes of Correa and Raymond nipping at his heals.

Men's Physique Review

This year's Men's Physique division at the 50th Olympia weekend was an amazing and eye-opening lineup. 18 men graced the staage.

1. Jeremy Buenida – He had an insane V-taper and an excellent front pose. He improved tremendously from last year.

2. Sadik Hadzovic – as always he looked amazing. It was very close between him and Buendia.

3. Jason Poston – Poston has had a great year and brought a tremendous package to the stage. He improved by two spots from last year.

4. Matt Acton – Acton dropped a place, but still brought an amazing package to the stage.

5. Steve Cook – He looked amazing when he won the Dallas Pro, but he couldn't match the broad shoulders and small waist from Hadzovic and Buendia. It is still a huge improvement from last year when he finished 8th.

6. Mark Anthony Wingson – Mark brought a very nice physique to the stage. he was last year's champion.

This division is growing and fast. The 18 competitors is a lot.

Please return next week when I review the Men's 212 division.
